Marie-Antoinette and Louis XVI exhibition at Fontainebleau

The exhibition  "Marie-Antoinette and Louis XVI at Fontainebleau: Splendour and the Sweetness of Life" runs at the Château de Fontainebleau from 11th October 2026 to 25th January 2027, marking  the 240th anniversary of the royal couple's final visit in 1786.

Through their numerous visits, filled with significant political and family events, Marie-Antoinette and Louis XVI demonstrated a profound attachment to Fontainebleau. The remarkable preserved interiors—such as the Turkish Boudoir, the Silver Boudoir, the Queen’s Grand Cabinet, the King’s Powder Room, and the Trinity Chapel—stand as lasting witnesses within the Palace to those moments of grace that preceded the French Revolution

As the ultimate queen of fashion, Marie-Antoinette left a lasting mark on the decorative arts, and the interiors she created at Fontainebleau stand as a testament to her exquisite refinement. To mark this dedicated season, her apartments have been reunited with their original furnishings. The Grand Cabinet, the Bedchamber, and the Silver Boudoir showcase exceptional pieces crafted by the period’s most celebrated artists, such as the cabinetmaker Jean-Henri Riesener.

There are various additional events planned, including an "immersive weekend" in April and, in June, a two-day exhibition of stage costumes designed by Christian Lacroix for the the opera "Le Postillon de Longjumeau".

(I was a bit disappointed to find the "stays of Marie-Antoinette" mentioned on the websites had nothing to do with corsetry...)
