A new TV documentary starring historical anthropologist Philippe Charlier follows the conservation in 2024 of Voltaire's heart, which resides in the base of his statue at the Bibliothèque nationale.
Broadcast on France 5 on 4th June, the programme is now available to stream within France, but not alas as yet in the wider world. We read:
Philippe Charlier brought together perfumers and an oenologist (Jean-Michel Duriez, Dionysos Mavrommatis, and Félix Boulègue) to decipher the embalming techniques of the time, then collected samples which were analyzed in the laboratory. This work made it possible to determine the cause of death of the famous philosopher......
