A petition has been published in Le Monde by the historian Loris Chavanette to save for the nation the manuscript letter from Robespierre to Danton auctioned on 12th March.
The letter was sold to a private collector for €218,750. The French government did not exercise its right of preemption.
Chavanette's initiative has the support of thirty or so public figures, including Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
