This September researchers under the direction of medical anthropologist Philippe Charlier have been continuing a scientific exploration of the Paris catacombs begun in September of last year.
The objectives of the investigation is to determine the number of individuals deposited in the catacombs and to collect data on the health of Parisians across the centuries. Excavations centre on an area where the wall of bones (the "hague") has partly collapsed.
