The exhibition "Paris 1794-1794: a Revolutionary year" opens at the Musée Carnavalet on 16th October.

"It was known as Year II of the French Revolution. In 1793, the young French Republic faced many challenges: external threats, and internal economic and political crises. The period was marked by the Terreur, an intense phase of political repression led by the Committee of Public Safety. Gone were the days of 1789 and the revolutionary utopia, and welcome to a phase of authoritarian transitions and ruptures. The musée Carnavalet is revisiting the key moments of this dark period through works of art. From 16 October 2024 to 16 February 2025, it focuses on this single year of the French Revolution, surely the most complex. The great events of 1793-1794 Featuring over 250 works, this exhibition highlights the artistic, emotional and intellectual diversity of a year marked by revolution. You will be able to appreciate a variety of creations, including paintings, sculptures, decorative art objects, historical artefacts, painted paper, poster and furniture. These pieces bear witness to the collective anguish and violence of the period. Various works have also been specially designed for this exhibition. These include a text by writer Éric Vuillard and several drawings by artists Locard and Grouazel. What's more, a multimedia system will give you the chance to continue your exploration of the Parisian sites of the period."
