A newly discovered portrait by Fragonard depicting a "Young Girl in a Hat", was sold by Boisgirard-Antonini on 21st December. It fetched €3.25m, against an estimate of €400,000 - 600,000.
BOISGIRARD-ANTONINI - Fragonard Revealed: La jeune fille… | Drouot.comThe painting originally belonged to Dominique Magaud (1722-1806), procurateur du roi, then deputy to the Estates-General for Puy de Dôme. Fragonard's The Philosopher Reading, which was rediscovered in 2021, was part of the same collection.
According to Art History News: "Although perhaps not the most visually appealing subject out there by the artist, the exquisite condition and 'fresh to the market' qualities obviously won out! It also shows that an enticing estimate, in this case €400,000 - 600,000, did its job well."
