A new biography of Marie-Antoinette by Charles-Éloi Vial was published on 4th January.
Vial, who is an archivist and curator of manuscripts at the Bibliothèque Nationale, promises new sources, notably the diary of the Queen's confessor abbé Maudoux and the papers of the maréchal de Castries.
At 770 pages, it is not going to be a quick read, even if your French is up to the challenge. (I still have John Hardman's biography on my bookshelf, which is probably more than enough for me.)
