The Louvre has confirmed today that the final €1.6 m has been raised by public subscription to secure Chardin's The Basket of Wild Strawberries for the museum.
The painting was originally auctioned in May 2022. It is scheduled to do a short tour of provincial galleries in the summer and autumn before returning to the Louvre permanently next year
