Remembering Bernard Plongeron

Father Bernard Plongeron, historian of the 18th-century Church, has died at the age of 93 on 31st January.

Ordained a priest in 1964, Father Plongeron was a researcher at the CNRS from 1963 and also taught at the Institut catholique in Paris.  He played a prominent role in debates on "popular Catholicism" in the 1970s and was  an influential figure in framing the concept of Catholic Enlightenment.
