Dossier de presse : LOUIS XVI, MARIE-ANTOINETTE ET LA RÉVOLUTION (culture.gouv.fr)
"Through archival documents, engravings, works of art, objects and pieces of furniture from the Tuileries, this tumultuous period is presented here, with a particular focus on the daily life of the royal couple, Marie-Antoinette's secret correspondence with the Swedish Count Axel de Fersen and the intimacy of a castle that has now disappeared."
Highlights include:
- The personal journal of Louis XVI ("Mardi 14 juillet: rien") open at pages for 1791 and 1792.
- Louis's declaration of 20th June 1791, written immediately before the flight to Varennes.
- A rarely exhibited portrait of Marie-Antoinette by Wertmüller, from a private collection.
- The secret correspondence of Marie-Antoinette and Fersen, some of which is exhibited for the first time.
